Milk: the Battenkill Valley Creamery
Battenkill Valley Creamery is a growing dairy business founded by Donald and Seth McEachron (4th and 5th generation farmers, respectively.) In February of 2008 Donald and Seth began processing and bottling milk on their family farm in Salem, NY. BVC’s milk is all-natural and 100% traceable. They recently won the award for highest quality milk in New York State by Cornell University.
Maple Syrup: Roxbury Mountain Maple
Set in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of upstate New York, Roxbury Mountain Maple has been providing the region’s finest, purest maple syrup since March 2011. This is a new adventure on an old farm—an old farm with fifty acres of sugar maples. Years ago, some of the trees were tapped by hand and the sap was boiled down in an old sugarhouse that now serves as our bicycle shed. Now the full potential of the property is being realized, with a new state-of-the-art sugarhouse, 7500 taps in sugar maples, fresh inspiration, and, of course, our commitment to producing the highest quality, purest maple syrup available.
Strawberries: mountain sweet Berry farm
Run by Rick Bishop, the farm in Roscoe, Sullivan County, was one of the earliest farmers' market participants, and became famous for selling the strawberries, which are closely related to wild strawberries. Tristars, also known as "day neutral strawberries", are are about one-third the size of regular commercial varieties, and are pungently sweet. Mountain Sweet Berry Farms is at the Union Square Greenmarket on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Ricotta: Salvatore Bklyn
The best ricotta ever! Salvatore Bklyn uses the freshest, fattiest whole milk from upstate to create a deeply creamy ricotta. They hang it in cheesecloth for an extra long time to give it dense, rich texture and a whisper of lemon to keep it bright.
